Striking antique French majolica fish wall pocket / jardinière, marked G.D. Déposé and associated with the documented Carpe de Fontainebleau type produced in France around the turn of the 20th century.

This highly sculptural piece is modeled as a large fish with naturalistic scales, fins, head, and a richly glazed tail in deep red, black, brown, and cream tones. Two original holes along the upper body allow the piece to be hung on the wall, where it would have functioned as a decorative wall pocket or small jardinière.

The side is inscribed “Chantilly / G.D. Déposé”. Comparable G.D. Déposé fish forms are documented in French majolica collections and auction records from the late 19th to early 20th century. It measures 12½"L x 3½"H

Please keep in mind when buying antique and vintage items you are purchasing something that is pre-loved. Most items show signs of age-related wear such as marks, variations of surface texture, minor scratches, and other issues associated with age. It’s what forms a part of the appearance of vintage pieces, but that’s also what makes them so unique. All sales are final. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about a particular item. Thank you
