A true time capsule from an early 20th century French artist’s desk.
This beautifully preserved wooden paint box opens to reveal a complete interior of original pigments, tools, and charming painted metal trays decorated with delicate floral motifs. Every element reflects a time when materials were made to last and creativity was learned hands-on. Inside, the original label reads “Couleurs sans danger” (colors free from poison), a fascinating reminder of the period when safer, non-toxic pigments were becoming important in art education.
The set includes watercolor cakes, wax sticks, mixing areas, and compartments, all neatly arranged in a thoughtfully designed folding box. The small floral trays are painted metal, stamped “Paris B Déposé – Made in France.” Both functional and highly decorative, this piece works beautifully as a display object, a conversation piece, or a unique addition to an artist’s collection. The dimensions are 12½" L x 6¾" W x 4" H

Please keep in mind when buying antique and vintage items you are purchasing something that is pre-loved. Most items show signs of age-related wear such as marks, variations of surface texture, minor scratches, and other issues associated with age. It’s what forms a part of the appearance of vintage pieces, but that’s also what makes them so unique. All sales are final. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about a particular item. Thank you
