An antique tea strainer designed to attach directly to the spout of a teapot. The two long wire prongs slide into the spout, allowing the pierced flower-shaped basket to hang below and catch loose tea leaves as the tea is poured. Comparable examples are commonly described as teapot-spout strainers or tea-leaf catchers, rather than conventional strainers placed over a cup.
The shallow basket is modeled as a scalloped flower with hand-pierced foliate decoration and a movable wire support. Its darkened patina and handmade character give it an appealing old-world appearance. Likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, although the exact metal content and origin cannot be confirmed without a visible hallmark.
