Measuring exactly 3¼ inches in length, this petite piece showcases the highly sought-after Feather Edge pattern chasing along its handle. The spoon features a circular, deep-set bowl perfect for distributing loose gourmet salts, spices, or mustard. It retains a highly attractive aged patina with minimal surface wear, showcasing fine craftsmanship from a legendary Sheffield silversmith. A  George III sterling silver teaspoon by William Bateman I, a member of the celebrated Bateman family of London silversmiths.

Dating to 1815–1816, the spoon is fashioned in the classic Old English pattern, with a simple tapered stem and rounded terminal characteristic of Georgian flatware. William Bateman I took sole control of the Bateman family workshop in 1815 and registered his own W.B maker’s mark that year.

The hallmarks visible on this spoon are consistent with London sterling silver of 1815–16: the lion passant for sterling standard, date letter U, George III sovereign/duty head, and William Bateman I’s maker’s mark. Museum records likewise identify the London U date letter as 1815–16 and William Bateman I pieces from that assay year.

A lovely piece of more than 200-year-old Georgian silver, appealing both as a collectible and as an elegant addition to a mixed antique silver flatware collection.
