Antique French Protestant Psalms and Prayer Book with Hand-Painted 1841 Inscription

An early 19th-century French-language Psalms and prayers book, bound in dark leather with gilt decoration.

It has an embossed ornamental design on the covers, a decorative gilt border, gilt detailing along the spine and gold-toned page edges. Inside are beautifully marbled endpapers and an engraved frontispiece depicting King David playing the harp.

A particularly appealing feature is the hand-painted ownership page, surrounded by a colorful floral wreath and inscribed in French:

“Psaumes appartenant à Charles Genton…” dated March 21, 1841.

The printed prayer section includes prayers for entering the church and receiving communion, suggesting that the book was intended for personal Protestant worship and church use.  The book measures 3"W x 4¾"H

Condition is consistent with considerable age. The leather binding shows rubbing, scuffs and wear along the edges and spine. Pages display foxing, discoloration, small tears and occasional edge losses. The hand-painted inscription remains attractive and legible. Please review the photographs carefully.
