Beautiful pair of antique French hand painted mother-of-pearl shells, each decorated with a charming coastal figure scene. One shell depicts a fisherman holding a net by the water, while the other shows a fisherwoman with a large net, both with seaside views in the background.
The shells are inscribed “Veules-les-Roses,” a historic seaside village in Normandy, France. The natural iridescence of the shells gives the painted scenes a luminous, pearly quality. A lovely antique French coastal souvenir, perfect for a cabinet of curiosities, shell collection, coastal vignette, or French seaside decor.
Likely late 19th to early 20th century. Shows age and wear, including paint loss, surface marks, scratches, edge wear, natural shell irregularities, and patina. Display stands not included. They measure approximately 7½"H x 3½"W

Please keep in mind when buying antique and vintage items you are purchasing something that is pre-loved. Most items show signs of age-related wear such as marks, variations of surface texture, minor scratches, and other issues associated with age. It’s what forms a part of the appearance of vintage pieces, but that’s also what makes them so unique. All sales are final. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about a particular item. Thank you
