An antique French blue and white faience proverb plate, sometimes referred to as an assiette parlante or “talking plate.”
The center features a French moral saying surrounded by a stenciled blue foliate wreath:
“Qui se fie trop à la beauté
Risque souvent d’être trompé”
which translates roughly to:
“He who places too much trust in beauty often risks being deceived.”
The wide rim is decorated with a bold repeating cobalt-blue motif, giving the plate a wonderfully graphic folk-art appearance. The slightly irregular decoration, glaze wear, and small firing imperfections add to its authentic antique character. It measures 7½" D

Most items show signs of age-related wear such as marks, variations of surface texture, minor scratches, and other issues associated with age. It’s what forms a part of the appearance of vintage pieces, but that’s also what makes them so unique. All sales are final.
